epadd-settings nested too deep?

0 votes

The instructions for the configuration file are: Once downloaded, unzip this file into your user directory (c:\users).

This results in a folder epadd-settings nested inside epadd-settings (\epadd-settings\epadd-settings*). Based on a line in the the log file following my first failed attempt to process a folder, it seems presetqueries.txt needs to be at the top level, \epadd-settings\presetqueries.txt. I moved the contents of the lower folder up one level and everything seems to work now. So there may be an extra folder in the zip file?

Thanks for pointing this out. We will update the user guide to remind users to copy the epadd-settings folder inside the zipped epadd-settings folder to their home folder.

Fair enough, but what I was trying to say is that the problem seems to be with the zipped folder itself. The structure is:
epadd-settings.7z
--epadd-settings
-----epadd-settings
----------conf
----------etc
rather than
epadd-settings.7z
--epadd-settings
-----conf
-----etc

I think the root cause of the confusion is the way 7-zip generate .7z file and unpack the .7z file.
I use 7-zip to zip the epadd-settings folder:
-----epadd-settings
----------conf
----------etc
to epadd-settings.7z.
When people unzip epadd-settings.7z, 7-zip genarates
--epadd-settings
-----epadd-settings
----------conf
----------etc

Now, I found a way to generate a .7z file so that when people unzip the .7z file, it gives
-----epadd-settings
----------conf
----------etc

Hope this will clear all confusion. I have upload the latest epadd-settings.7z to Github.

Thanks for looking into this. After downloading the new zip file, it looks like there is potential confusion because 7-zip has a couple different options for extraction. With the new zip file, if you choose "extract here" there will be no epadd-settings folder, but if you choose a different directory to extract to, the folder will be created. So I would just suggest clarifying in the documentation that the contents of the zip folder should be in epadd-settings without any subfolder.

Updated user guide to clarify correct location of epadd-settings folder.
